Benjamin Freedman presently resides and works in Toronto, ON. Freedman completed his BFA in photographic studies at Ryerson University (Toronto) after studying Cinema, Video and Communications at Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec. Freedman’s practice questions photography’s role in describing the world and its implications within a range of professional practices. While probing the relative truths and deceptions of photography, he purposely adopts visual vocabularies from genres such as science fiction and horror in an effort to create expanded documentary projects. He self-published his first photography book Observations of Foreign Objects in a Remote Town in 2015, and has exhibited extensively across the greater Toronto area – most recently at the Ryerson Image Centre, 8eleven Gallery and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. He has also shared his work internationally at the Aperture Foundation in New York City.
